ORI*Universe Pendant
Hang an ORI*Universe around your neck to remind you of how amazing your place is in its folds.
At the core of my artistic practice, I attempt to make sense of the relationship between the fold and nature.
My artworks are realisations of form and systems of thought, made possible only through software, digital fabrication, robotics, oribotics, and folded geometries, with the intent to examine these relationships.
This pendant is based on my work The Folded Geometry of the Universe. The geometry is suggestive of the larger work, however the pendant is the universe made to fit in your hand.
For The Folded Geometry of the Universe* my inspiration came from examining the scale of folds in nature as criteria to understand folds. We theorise that folds exist at all scales of nature, from the nanoscale of folds in strings of DNA, pleats in paper at the origami scale, craggy mountains and valleys folds formed by the awesome crushing power of tectonic plates, and much much larger it is theorised, that the shape of the universe is folded, that gravity and dark matter fold the shape and fabric of the universe. This idea of the universal shape of the fold or the folded shape of the universe fascinated me, not from the point of reproducing what theoretical physics states, but from the idea of creating something to represent the infinite form connected to the field of oribotics. Conceptually, the model is infinite in size and able to fold from a point to a universe through the expansion and compression of time, folds and space. That the fold can be used as a complex idea to express the shape of time and space, is fundamental to finding relationships with nature.
