Oribotics [Tokyo Design Touch]

Oribotics [Tokyo Design Touch]

Oribotics at Tokyo Design Touch was the Japanese premiere of oribotics. Shortly after arriving the title shifted from oribotic オリボチク to oribo オリボ or even better to include the kanji for fold 折りボ(like aibo or asimo) a very cute name with a rounder sound.

The installation design is an IKO4 mero dome with a plastic facade and is the most sophisticated exhibition design ever tried with oribotics. The atmosphere inside the oribo-dome was a full field of view of geometry and oribotics. Quickly indrawn breaths followed by an enthusiastic 'sugoi' (trans. incredible) were heard frequently from the Japanese on approach.

The expertise and enthusiasm of the Ars Electronica Futurelab, Hakuhodo, and Tokyo Midtown team made the entire exhibition a truly memorable experience.

The following Japanese is from Tokyo Design Touch:

折り紙ロボットの花が咲く。 Oribotics (オリボティクス) 折り紙にインスパイアーされて作られたフラワー型ロボット、オリボティクス。LEDに照らし出された光と影が織りなす幻想的な世界、センサーに反応して花が咲いたり閉じたりする動き、素材のしなやかさをお楽しみください。

A google assisted translation:
Robot origami flowers. Oribotics
These flower robots are inspired by origami, called Oribots. Moving closer weaves a fantastic world of light and shadow from LED, blooming in response to a sensor. Please enjoy the suppleness of the material.

We acknowledge the Wuthaurong people on whose lands we live and work. Sovereignty was never ceded and we pay our respect to past, present, and future Aboriginal elders and community, and to their long and rich history of artmaking on this Country.
